Since I was little, I have always considered playtime to be very serious business. Play is how kids learn. The roots of a child’s success must begin in an effective play environment. In my professional life, I have followed my love for play and it is my belief that a well curated environment that allows for imaginative play is instrumental in early childhood development.

Shortly after graduating from architecture school at the University of Kentucky, I followed my love for getting dirty in the great outdoors and moved to the beautiful playground of Colorado. I began work in architectural design, and found myself in the position of designing a natural playscape for a small mountain preschool. The seed was planted, and I was hooked.

Diverting from architecture, I decided to further study playgrounds, and I began working in the Early Childhood Education field. Working with preschoolers has allowed me to gain a greater understanding of child development and the influence of well-designed outdoor classrooms. The learning environment is incredibly important, and in a world where we are spending more and more time indoors, it is key to have wonderful outdoor spaces for children’s developing minds and bodies.

Usually, the perfect backdrop for outdoor play includes elements as simple as somewhere to climb, somewhere to hide, parts for building, and some mud. The true magic happens when these elements are combined just right, and the child’s imagination can take it from there.

Now back in my home state of Kentucky, I am thrilled to bring the design and Early Childhood Education experience I have gained and bring quality natural play to kids here in the Bluegrass.
